So I took AJ on her first trip to the big movie theater today. We have "mooneytime" at home before naptime, which is usually a bit of Elmo or some musical numbers from High School Musical or Sound of Music. I was never a fan of allowing my daughter to watch TV, but this actually works well because 1.) I get a mental break, and 2.) she knows that naptime always comes after mooneytime. So there's not suprise there and no way to get out of it.
Today we saw "Horton Hears a Who" and it was really cute - but the second it started I knew it would be scary for a toddler. And boy was she scared! When she first sat in the movie theater seat she almost slid down in between the folding part...which didn't matter because the second the surround sound came alive she was in my lap. I could even feel her shake in my arms during some of the more active scenes. For some reason AJ almost cried when Horton took a bath and the fast edits (like this wierd Horton Kung Fu segment?) really scared her. We left about halfway through, and even though a little part of her wanted to stay, she was so relieved.
Later AP asked her how the movie was and she said, "scary" and later "dark." Poor thing. I was going to take her to see HSM3 in the theater, but maybe we'll just rent it at home. Actually I was already reconsidering my plan because I watched the trailer and something about the big screen production values makes it look way more adult than the made-for-TV versions.
I know, I should not be letting my two-year old watch a pre-teen movie but she LOVES to sing along and I am still working on getting the choreography down. Both true!

We were at Horton Hears a Who on Thursday. I thought it was cute and I only brought JB so we had a good time. Sorry to hear it scared her. I agree that those cartoon-y animated scenes were really weird!
