Blogger Goes Political

So we've been watching the DNC coverage here and there, although husband of course is glued to it while I'd rather flip back and forth to House Hunters. I'm not really into getting all political (I get so worked up over some things that I have learned it's better not to get started, see I even decided no comments for this post) but I will say a few things.

1. Someone wrote a letter to the local paper the other day saying that Obama stumbles through his speeches and she didn't understand how anyone could keep listening. Has she watched him??? He is really an amazing speaker. (She also had a slightly offensive comment in there that told me she was racist so.....)

2. Even with all of the political rhetoric and the catch phrases that I can pick out, I still really want to believe Obama. I want to hope that he can unite this country across party lines, economic classes, religions, race and all kinds of beliefs. I really liked his comments about us not agreeing on abortion and gun control but stating that we need to try reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and take AK-47s off the streets.

3. I am nervous for Obama. I know there are people in this country filled with anger, hate and rage for those of a different race or background. I hate to even write it, but I fear Obama's chances of being targeted by someone wanting to hurt him are higher than your average presidential candidate. While I am hopeful that he is the guy who can and will take our country in a different direction, this thought makes me nervous for him, his wife and his daughters.
