Go Diego Go, And Nail That Dismount

I have always wanted a little girl so I could take her to things like ballet recitals, gymnastics meets, ice skating shows, syncronized swimming, yadayadayada. I KNOW you can take boys to those things, but come on....I just really really wanted to have a girl.

So I got my girl, and she's now at a great age where I can start to take her to these events and watch her truly enjoy them. AJ sat like a stone when she took in her first show choir concert in Omaha in January. I have never ever seen her sit so still. And I can't wait until the whole family heads out to see High School Musical on Ice in a few weeks. APY and I are both so eager to see her reaction. (And I know APY is quite eager to take in the show himself....haha).

Tonight AJ and I went to an Illini men's gymnastics meet, where they kicked some serious Iowa booty. At least on the pommel horse. AJ sat quietly, ate her snacks and took it all in. She clapped at appropriate times and cheered along with the crowd. But the absolute highlight of the meet for both of us was when we realized there was a guy on the Iowa team named Diego. And his parents were a few rows in front of us.

Have you ever seen gymnasts during a meet? They scream and cheer each other on throughout all the performances. So whenever Diego was up, we heard....

GO DIEGO GO!!!! GO DIEGO!!! GO GO DIEGO!!! COME ON DIEGO, GOOOOO!

Absolutely classic. I could not have planned it any better. The stars aligned and for a few brief moments my little girl could actually cheer on her idol as I basked in the irony of it all.

LOL I love it! If only there were a Dora on the women's team...

I think Bubba would really like a gymnastics meet (for a little bit, anyway)...he was obsessed with the men's gymnastics when we watched the Olympics. I wonder how long he would last at a meet.

My niece is in gymnastics. I've taken both kids and JB is the bigger fan.

I think he just likes looking at all the pretty, insanely fit girls flipping all around.

He's such a boy.

If you guys are seriously interested in going, I would LOVE some company. No one ever wants to go with me (husband included) so it's just me and AJ.

I think Bubba would do fine - they sell popcorn and I always bring a ton of snacks. But the meets are often Saturday night at 7pm or Sunday afternoon at 2pm...which doesn't matter to us since AJ doesn't sleep, but it is usually bad timing for others.

That would explain why we haven't gone. That's bedtime and naptime.

Although if I have enough notice, I could probably finagle naptime on Saturday so he could stay up later...
