On February 28, 2008, my husband and I ate something that was not good. We aren't sure what, although from the credit card bill we suspected it was Monical's. Whatever the bad food was, it left us with post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome, or PI-IBS.
I will spare you the TMI details, except to say that most of the time I end my day with bloating that makes me look 4 to 5 months pregnant. I am not exagerating - once last year APY almost made me take a pregnancy test. It would be funny if it wasn't so annoying. Most of my friends see me during the day and are unaware of how different I look at night.
There's not really much you can do for PI-IBS except wait it out. And unfortunately my "intense" Internet research tells me it's going to be a while. In one study, about half of PI-IBS sufferers recovered after six years. And the other half took longer? Or didn't recover? The study wasn't clear on that....
Much to AJ's chagrin, we have stopped going to Monical's since we get really sick every time we go there. And we bought a big book on homeopathic medicines, since the GI specialist we saw last year was not very helpful. Last night we started taking a homeopathic medicine (are they supplements? Vitamins and minerals? Not sure what else to call it...) called Lycopodium. In addition to IBS, Lycopodium treats all sorts of ailments, so we are looking to come out of this experience healthier, happier and prettier. Haha.
So have a big fat Happy Birthday, PI-IBS. Here' s hoping you won't have many more.

That's a crappy doggie bag to take home from dinner! I hope the new supplement works for you guys.
And I was never impressed with Monical's anyway. :P
I wonder if that's what I used to have...haven't had it for a few years, but I would go from flat to 6-months pregnant in like 5 minutes..it was insane!
