R.I.P. Naptime

So I haven't been blogging very much frequently and that has to do with the fact that I basically have ZERO time to myself these days. With the exception of an hour at the gym two days a week and an hour or two at night, I have a toddler attached to me at all waking hours. Because she is done. with. naps.

I think this is for real, it doesn't seem to be a phase. Sometimes I'll put AJ in her room for an hour of "quiet time" but it's kind of a joke. She sings, plays and calls out for me as I give her a countdown until the end of quiet time. "mmmMOMmy, where ARE you mommy? It fifteen minutes?"

LOL, she is saying the same exact thing right now at 8:45 p.m. Despite her lack of daytime sleep, AJ hasn't changed her night routine. She is still happy to stay up well past nine. For the most part it doesn't bother me, because we are very good at filling our days with friends and activities, and when I need her to AJ can usually play independently while I do dishes or sweep the floor or something. And we do have about an hour of TV time in the afternoon so I have some reading or work-out time. (Ever watch Dora while you're on the stationary bike? SO not motivational).

But there are some days that are just not enjoyable. Like the single-digit days when you hate to leave the house, or the temper tantrum days, or the string of days when the sun refuses to peek through the clouds. And APY is going through a rough phase in treatment right now. I feel terrible that he is so tired and sick, but some days I just need a break and I don't really get it.

I love staying home. I know some moms find it boring or mind-numbing, but I have never worked at a job more enjoyable than this. I would much rather be playing play-dough or dress up than pretending that I care about fakey, boring, business-related issues and events. But sometimes I wish I could bring back that daily dose of two and a half hours of uninterrupted quiet.

So rest in peace, naptime. It was great while it lasted!

I feel you. WW gave her's up at right around 2. She will nap on rare occasions if she's had a really long day. But the trade off is she goes to sleep at 7 or 7:30 so I do get some peace in the evening.

I'm hoping once it gets warmer and we're outside running all day she might nap again. But, I won't hold my breath.
