So it's all decided. The entire family is giving up Starbucks (Espresso Royale, etc.) for Lent. The hard part is that since APY and I are giving it up that means AJ is too. I didn't mean to make my toddler give something up for Lent this early in life...but hey, she's Catholic and the guilt starts young. Just kidding!
APY and I have been doing a lot of family budgeting lately. After several downloads of useless budgeting software, I made my own Excel spreadsheet with categories for expenses. And I was shocked to find that Starbucks needed its own category. So that was a big part of what led to tonight's decision.
We were in Starbucks one evening last week and AJ was running between the table and the trash can and twirling around in circles. She looked at us and said, "I love it here." Honestly, that just came out on its own! I mean the kid seriously loves Starbucks. She feels the same comfort I do there: warm colors, cool atmosphere, tasty drink - in her case, the chocolate "moo juice." (We are not milk drinkers at home).
AJ asks several times a week to go to Starbucks and we usually give in once. But this week she's going to have to learn about Lent. Although Grandma Mil always said that Sundays don't actually count in Lent....so maybe if AJ gets desperate....

I'm glad there's not a Starbucks near us. (I know - "near" is a relative word.) But at our old house up north, there was a drive-thru SB about two minutes away, and across the street from that was a Target with a SB, and down the street from that was a Dominick's with a SB.
We spent a lot of money on Mochas while we lived there. :)
So what did you do about the Target down the street? I mean, how many times a day did you hit that? I know you have a little obsession...
On a related note, I can not believe the $1 dollar bargains they have at Target right now.
We were at Target ALL. THE. TIME. It was the first public outing for both of the kids. :) I do miss it.
And dammit! Now I have to go to Target tomorrow to see what the dollar section looks like - the husband took PG without me last weekend, so it's been almost two weeks since I've been there! Tragic!
Now you understand why we don't go to church.
Just kidding. We're heathens.
