The Six Basic Food Groups

I would call my husband and myself fairly adventurous eaters. We do have some distinct dislikes (him more than me!) but we will try most anything and we are big fans of eating internationally - we love Indian, Japanese, Thai, etc. We mostly cook at home and our meals are healthy and (we think) delicious.

So we were saddened to find that we have an extremely picky eater on our hands. These are really the only foods that AJ will eat.

1. Things with syrup (pancakes, waffles, french toast)
2. Eggs
3. PB & J
4. Fruit
5. some kid foods - pizza, pasta, most chicken fingers, french fries, some mac n cheese
6. edamame

That's right, the kid won't eat oatmeal or yogurt or toast or grilled cheese but she LOVES edamame. Or Eda-mommy, as we call it. It is the only vegetable she will eat, but isn't it at least a great one? High in protein, fiber and nutrients. So I make it at least once a week for a snack. (BTW Meijer has frozen edamame super cheap).

So we were out at dinner last week and APY and I were in our own little sushi heaven. My in-laws were having some problems with their orders. Andy and I were trying to ignore everything around us to focus on the sushi. And little AJ sat there with an appetizer-sized bowl of edamame and just sucked those beans out of the pods in silence. She didn't even want to share when my FIL discovered he too liked eda-mommy. But our 20-minute dinner was just a lovely experience because of her love for those little soybeans.

And then when we got home, she requested peanut butter and jelly. As if to remind us that edamame does not make a meal...but PB&J does.

So funny! WW loves eda-mommy too! Her and I cook those up at least once a week and zone out it goodness. =)

JB on the other hand is a super picky eater, just like his father. It drives me nuts! I hope she gets over this phase soon. =)
