So we are on day 3 of potty-training. It sure is stressful. It's just very intense because one of us has to stay focused (or at least aware of what AJ is doing) all the time. I am extremely lucky because I have a husband who is fully-involved in this. I had to teach the morning of our first day and sing at church last night, leaving him alone for 2-3 hours each time. He is a great dad to AJ and incidentally is very good at potty-training kids. :)
Aside from my husband, it has been nice to have the support of my friend Gina. She and I were pretty much inseparable through most of college (except the painful semester she spent in Ireland and the one I spent in NYC). As we moved apart geographically we drifted a bit, but when we had babies three months apart we suddenly found ourselves with a lot in common and the need to chat more frequently. She lives in Pennsylvania but we talk most days of the week and visit when we can.
So this week Gina and I decided to do potty-training together. She has been very inventive with her "prize boxes" and despite her busy schedule and 10-month old tag-a-long, Gina has been doing a great job with her son. When one of our kids has an accident, we call the other for support and encouragment. And when one of us has great success, we call the other to describe, in detail, just how much excrement our kid is capable of producing.
So it has been great to go through this with both Gina and my husband, because it is definitely a difficult time. This morning I left AJ alone for two minutes and when I returned she had pulled down her pants, crapped on the kitchen floor and pulled her pants back up. Nice, huh? But we are doing pretty well with peeing and hopefully by Friday (when I teach at the gym) we will feel pretty confident about stepping out of the house!

Sweet! X-man was home with me today getting over the last of his illness. So I told him we'd be spending all day (except quiet time) in big boy pants. He only had one accident within 10 minutes of getting him dressed, and unlike other attempts, he decided when to go to the bathroom rather than me asking him all the time.
So, I know he gets the idea of the whole pee thing (unless he's completely obsessed with playing), but he didn't poop all day, which is weird for him. Because he usually poops at 10:30 a.m. or at 4 p.m. It's like clockwork. It's probably because he's been eating less from being sick.
I'm wondering if when I send him to school tomorrow, I should just do big boy pants. Or if maybe I should put the big boy pants on under the pull up, so if he forgets in a different environment that's not home, he'll at least know he feels wet.
Sigh. It's hard to know how to do the right thing.
At least she had the foresight to take her pants off before crapping on the floor!
That's progress! :)
Loosey - I don't know what to tell you...it's like they're playing mind games with us. I personally think you should wait until MacTroll is at home for a three-day stretch and make the two of them stay home alone together to do potty training. :)
So what did you do about school today?
