So January is the time of year when I get little sweets and treats around my house. I know, it seems wrong, doesn't it? January is the time when the rest of the country joins a gym and clears the sweets out of the pantry. But for me, it's stock-up time. Because I need to have a sweet here and there - like one in the afternoon and one after dinner.
I grew up having dessert after every dinner. My mom kept the cookie jar full and we always sat around with a couple of cookies or some other dessert after our evening meal. But I now know if I bake some cookies, I am going to eat them all while they are hot. (Duh, that's when cookies taste the best). So I really only bake if I have company coming or if it's something I can freeze.
This year for Christmas I made sure my loved ones helped me to stock up on the chocolate products I love. I aim for just two or three 100 calorie treats a day. Here's what I'm eating:
- Harry & David chocolate truffles. Unfortunately my MIL bought a bunch of flavors I don't like so I am having no problems rationing these. She got four big bags and they will last well into the summer. One truffle is 100 calories.
- Instead of getting me clothes that need returned to stores we don't have here, I asked my step-mother to take us to Trader Joe's in Pittsburgh and buy us things we love. OMG YOU GUYS you need to try the chocolate-covered peanut butter-filled pretzels. Don't ask me for some because I'm not sharing. Three of these equal 100 calories. They are huge and they are fabulous. *wink*
- 100 Calorie packs of Cakesters. I remember studying advertising and learning that the biggest achievement an ad can have is to move a consumer to take action. I saw an ad yesterday afternoon (twice actually - and increased exposure to the ad definitely made a difference) and I went out last night and TOOK ACTION. I bought Nabsico Oreo Cakesters, a huge rip-off because you only get 15 little cookies in a box that was $2.79 on sale. But look right here! I just found a $1.00 off coupon for you!
And if you see my husband, please don't let him forget he promised me Art Mart truffles for Valentine's Day. Hey, isn't that in just two weeks or so? I am totally stocked up for the winter.
