"Whatever, Martha"

I do not watch a lot of television. I love when I talk about TV to my stepbrother...he DVRs Survivor, American Idol and everything else my 65 year-old mother-in-law watches. I just can't seem to find any time for television these days....and since most stuff on TV is crap anyway, that's fine by me.

But I have recently been catching snippets of a new show that I kind of like. (Okay, new to me means it started airing four months ago). I say 'kind of' because I don't love it...yet I am attracted to the premise of the show and I get a couple of good laughs out of every segment. Even the husband laughed out loud as we watched last night.

It's called "Whatever, Martha!" and it airs on the Fine Living network. The hosts are Alexis Stewart, Martha Stewart's daughter, and her longtime friend Jennifer Koppelman Hutt. It's modeled after "Mystery Science Theater 3000," and features the two friends watching old reruns of Martha and supplying running commentary. They are funny and are not afraid to take jabs at Martha, with Alexis often pointing out the unconventional chores she had growing up.

This New York Times review gives you a good idea about the show and is quite accurate. I like the show because the hosts say what's on everyone's mind, wondering who in their right mind has the time and motivation to care so much about things like gardening and housework.

Last night they were watching Martha plant about a dozen or so little square patches of fresh spinach in her garden. She said that each square provides spinach for 100 salads and she replants the squares five times every summer. Thousands and thousands of spinach salads every summer? Who has that kind of time? Her serious tone just kills me...and Alexis and Jennifer took her to town for it. Totally entertaining.

OMG I was totally going to blog about this tonight. That is so freaking weird!!!! I saw this show the last few nights and I LOVED it!!! I love Alexis's dry humor and her friend is hilarious too.

I saw two episodes that cracked me up. One where Martha was completley organizing her linen closet with frames tags and everything. And the other where she was decorating a table for a little girls birthday party. It was very entertaining.

You know what they say about great minds.... =)

Awesome!! I'm so glad it's not just me. I would love to be friends with Jennifer, they both sound like fun 'girlfriends.'

The last one I saw had Martha hemming the pants of this young handsome stagehand...and the sexual innuendo was ridiculous!!
