Okay, time for Cyberchic to stop turning the blog into a bitchfest. It's Christmas! There's so much to look forward to in the next few weeks! I want to take this time to help myself remember all the fun we're going to have.
What am I looking forward to?
1. Three whole weeks with only a few working day for APY. His work schedule has been heavy the last few months, and I miss having him around. It doesn't matter whether we're sitting in the car for hours on end or awkwardly cramming ourselves into Aunt Lil's house....at least we're together, and that's something I do NOT take for granted.
2. I love the quiet time we get in the car. We don't always get it, but it will be dark as we travel east on Sunday so AJ might take a nap. Which leaves me and the husband alone in the front seats, chatting and listening to whatever music we want.
3. Christmas morning. AJ will be the only child in my parents' house on Christmas morning, so she will get all the attention and all the presents. She is at such a great age for Christmas, and the Santa stories don't even have to be realistic - she buys it all. I can't wait.
4. Christmas eve mass. Sometimes it is so surreal to enter my old church. I have literally grown up in and around that church - weddings and funerals, first communion, learning to lector and cantor, school plays, being with friends and family. I attended eight years of grade school on the floors above that church. So going back is like going home. I can't wait to show AJ the Nativity scene and listen to the elderly folks in the choir sing the same songs they have always sung.
5. Family members. I can't wait for AJ to spend more time with my sister and her husband. We haven't seen my family in six months and in toddler growth that means a world of difference. I'm also excited for AJ to see her cousin (also 2.5) and for the two of them to play with my dad's trains. Also my aunt and uncle, who I never feel get quite enough quality time with AJ.
Well there it is. Everything I'm so excited and grateful for. Travel is often a time of stress but I would just like to go slow this year and take it all in. Life is never perfect, but we just don't get much time with our families so we'll have to make it count.
I hope you all have safe travels and make great Christmas memories with those you love!
