I'm Going to Let You in on a Secret

**warning: this is a parenting post**

I wasn't going to tell anyone about this, in case I fail! But I have read so much interesting stuff recently that I just have to share. I have set a date in early December to potty-train AJ. I haven't attempted it yet, because every child is ready at a different time. I now know she is definitely ready. I am leery of holiday travel and distractions...but hopefully three weeks or so is enough time for us to get in the groove and take our potty-trained selves on the road at Christmas.

So the book that I'm reading is "Toilet Training In Less Than a Day." Crazy, right? If you're really interested, go read the user reviews at the Amazon.com link. They're amazing! The book was written in the 1970s by two professors who studied learning techniques. They found that potty training was much easier and faster when they combined every learning technique possible (things like immitation, praise, rewards, creating maximum opportunities, etc.) in a focused setting with minimal distraction.

It is a really interesting book. I am a little concerned that I'm going to forget something (there are a LOT of details) so I am going to type up a detailed script for myself. The big day requires a great deal of planning, but I'm hoping it's worth it in the end.

I'm about halfway through the book but already trying some of the techniques on AJ...and they're working. She can now successfully undress herself, put her Elmo seat on the toilet, get up by herself, relax and go. I am loathing the time when I need to prompt her to go all the time...but the book has promised that will be as few as FOUR short hours of my life. So I guess we'll see in a few weeks!

Okay, so don't answer if you don't want to...since you didn't allow posts on the flu "shot" I found a loophole :) That's amazing that it's 50% more effective...how's that happen? Just curious, not debating but still don't need to address it at all :) Sorry I cheated...

Sorry for cheating on cyberchick's blog...I did find out that the mist is a live virus and the shot isn't so that's what makes it more effective. Really, I was just interested, not debating, but I won't be a bad blog reader anymore :) Feel free to give me shit:)

LOL. I wasn't ignoring you, just being too lazy to look it up. And by lazy I mean reading TMZ and popsugar.

I should just have you call your family full of medical professionals before I post anything!! I often wish someone in my family was a doctor.
