It's so funny how people in my neighborhood are having these silent political debates. Most residents of my neighborhood are old and probably wealthy. These are the people with the McCain signs in their yards. Then there's the smattering of college professors and independent thinkers with Obama signs. But the granddaddy of them all is the guy on the corner with the McCain/Palin signs taped to his garage door. To make them more visible maybe?
It started with the garage doors. Then we noticed one in his window that says something about his having a home with wonderful conservative values. And then another neighbor put Obama signs on his garage door, kind of mocking corner guy, we thought!
But the best was when the neighbors across the street from corner guy (younger like us with kids, the dad is a lawyer) put up two Obama signs and two zippy little signs. One says "PALIN: she can see Russia from her house" and I can't remember what the other one says. Unfortunately it appears they were blown away in the wind last night (or were they???).
So immediately after their four signs went up, the guy on the corner adds five signs on the side of his house (two McCain, three local) and a big old Republican flag on his flag pole. Outstanding!
We are not sure whether we should get an Obama sign or not. On one hand we want to say to the neighbors, "Hey! Not everyone feels exactly the same way you do!" On the other hand, we barely see these people at all, so if their only knowledge of us is that we are of different political parties, that doesn't get us off on the right foot. And - whose business is it anyway?
Can you tell I've been constantly going over this in my head for weeks? (I will have to figure out what that other funny Palin sign said...hopefully it reappears).
The sign wars rage on.

The other sign said..."Desperate times call for a desperate man. McCain." That and the Palin "I can see Russia" signs were definitely stolen. The two Obama/Biden signs are still there.
awesome! Don't tell dad. He'd put a McCain sign like that in his yard too. SOrry i haven't read your blog lately. will do so more often.
LOL, One of the liberal t-shirt/bumper sticker catalogs (Northern Sun maybe) sells a flag that is black with an earth on it.
I always just wanted to put that one in front of my house.
Hysterical. We only have a few people with signs. The ones I saw today is about the local school systems. I would have a good time on your street.
FYI - The Obama people replaced the funny signs, so they're back up again!
