Blogger Had a Little Lamb

Today is the two-year anniversary of my Grandma Mil's death. Despite our geographical distance, I was extremely close to her. I can still easily replay our phone conversations in my mind. Gram was a big fan of "What Not To Wear;" She always took me up on my offer to call her back after the show was over. :-)

So today in her honor, I took out an antique cast iron cake mold that belonged to her. It's in the shape of a lamb. (It looks exactly like this one on e-bay, which just sold for $175 bucks!). When my dad was a kid, Gram used to make a lamb cake every Easter. She hadn't used it in decades until she pulled it out a few years ago only to end up with a funny, lopsided lamb. I don't even think I was there that weekend, but the whole family got a good laugh out of it.

But surprisingly, my lamb cake turned out quite nicely! I Googled around a little bit for some instructions and tips beforehand. I was impressed by how well he stayed together - just toothpicks in his ears (before baking) and one in his butt. He had Nerds for eyes and a nose, but they are long gone. I will say that cutting his head off was a little traumatic for all of us, but once AJ got her hands on the icing, all was forgotten.

That is too cute! And it's nice that it has sentimental value, too. :)

I sense a new Easter tradition at your house!
